Abstract

This study concerns with the clarification of the concept of rhythm stated by old and modern critics. It also concerns with the explanation of the relationship developed between the rhythm latenting in a poem and its general meaning. It, moreover, shows to what extent the rhythm can affect the psychological state of the poet at the time of composing an elegy.
To achieve such goals, the study takes al- Hadi Adam's elegies as a model. It presents a brief speech about every single elegy in which information about the occasion on which it was composed, it's prosodic measure, the nature of both external and internal rhythm occurring in it is given, along with the impact of the two mentioned rhythms on the painful state of sadness reflected by such an elegy
