Current knowledge on bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws

Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) adversely affects the quality of life and produces significant morbidity in afflicted patients. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have been responsible for counselling, managing and treating most of these patients. Here, a review of bisphosphonates, their uses, as well their effects on the jaws is given. Management of the condition is also discussed.
