Abstract

The paper addressed with analysis the signs and indicators of drought in Umm Ruwaba Locality, North Kordofan Sudan, using some appropriate methods such as GISand RS. The study showed that the signs and indicators of drought are interrelated,for drought caused desertification and desertification has in turn, triggered more droughts. Thishas led to many effects such as deterioration and drop ofbio productivity of soil and vegetation. Inaddition, signs like sand encroachment, failure in agricultural and animal production and subsequently, the displacement of people due to successive droughts have led to noticeable decrease in agricultural and posture lands. The study recommended the increase of climate monitoring systems in order to build asustainablesystem for climate data collection in theshort and long run in the area. Such data when available will help in further study and analyses of climate changes and disasters for better strategies in traditional agro-pastoral sector.
