Abstract

This article attempts to shed light on the history of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Khartoum
and the circumstances surrounding its establishment. It also introduces the eminent personalities who
contributed to its establishment and attempts to trace its impact and developments in academic, administrative,
cultural and social history. The paper relied on the collection of information about the founding of the department
through brochures and publications printed during cultural events and seasonal exhibitions, as well as some
references related to the emergence and development of Sudanese archaeology, in addition to some information
collected from some representatives of the first generations of students and professors who participated in the
founding of the department and who have fond memories associated with it. The descriptive approach with which
this information is presented is intended to provide a general overview of the history of the department, the stages
of its development and the people who were involved. The paper contained a lot of information about the history
of the department and the teachers who were involved in its work. This information would have been lost in the
future if we had not documented it.
