Abstract

The purpose of this article is to introduce one of the outstanding personalities of the Islamic era who has been
largely ignored in Arabic and Sudanese sources. The Sudanese ruler in question is Kafur al-Ikhshidi, who made
a distinct contribution to Islamic history by ruling Egypt for some twenty-three years, joining the ranks of
Sudanese rulers who ruled Egypt during its long history. His biography is filled with many prominent and
luminous aspects and perhaps ignoring the role of this leader was a consequence of the origin he came from.
His social and cultural roots were evident from some sources, and some personal traits that revealed his
Sudanese origin were also compared. His significant and important contributions were also evident during his
rule over Egypt.
