Abstract

This paper has examines and analyzes the efforts and policies of poverty combating and its alleviation in Bahri Locality,
Khartoum State, Sudan, during the last three decades. The paper aims to identify the efforts and its success in poverty
reducing in Bahri locality. To achieve the objectives of the study, the study has used descriptive analytical and statistical
methods. The study relied on the preliminary data collected through observation; interviews, group discussion, as well
as published and unpublished secondary sources. The main findings of the study: The spread of poverty and its
expansion in the study area, due to economic, social, political and environmental factors. The number of poor families
in the area is about 186,940 families. The percentage of poor families in the Northern Rural Unit was 95%, the
Northern Bahri Unit 86 %, and the Bahri City Unit 80%. In addition to the weakness of poverty reduction efforts in
the area. The most important recommendations of the study: Establishing a federal ministry concerned with the affairs
of the poor people. Promoting the values of solidarity, compassion and partnership. Building the human capacities for
the poor people. As well as benefiting from the capabilities and experiences of the other countries and international
