Abstract

This study examines the components of sustainable tourism in Artegasha Island, located in Sudan's Northern
State, as a model of Nubian islands endowed with unique environmental and cultural features. It aims to explore
the island’s tourism potential, analyze the challenges hindering its development, and propose strategic
approaches that balance cultural and environmental preservation with local economic enhancement. The study
adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology using field observation, semi-structured interviews with 25 tourism
experts, and SWOT analysis. The findings reveal that the island is well-positioned to become a distinguished
eco-cultural destination if sustainable planning, local community empowerment, and infrastructure improvement
are ensured. The study recommends integrating the island into the national tourism strategy and adopting a lowimpact community-based tourism model.
