The paper examines the Enlightenment as a philosophical and intellectual movement. The aim of the study of the subject is to clarify a period of that epoch called the Age of Enlightenment, as this name was appropriate when thought began to free itself from restrictions. It also shows that the philosophy of the (Enlightenment) emphasizes the value of natural reason but rejects any revelation and anything that can be attributed to divine providence and divine goodness. This confirms that it focused on the sanctification of the mind and the criticism of arbitrariness. The topic gains its importance by clarifying the essence of the concept of the Age of Enlightenment and emphasizing the prominent position of the spirit and freedom among Enlightenment philosophers. The descriptive analytical method was used in this study. It came to the following conclusions, among others: There is no enlightenment unless one returns to the mind and prevents everything that interferes with the freedom of rational thought from being controlled. Furthermore, the mind must be freed from the dominance of sanctifying people, and the mind must acquire the ability to critically analyze.
