Abstract

Population growth trends and urban development are human and urban components that reflect the level of economic and social development of  a population. In this context, the research is concerned with measuring population growth trends in Al-Ula Governorate as a component that contributes to sustainable development in addition to urban development, which usually keeps pace with population growth. The main goal of the research is to highlight the level of population growth and its trends in the governorate by studying its indicators (population growth, annual increase, years of doubling, and population projections) and linking that to urban development in the governorate, with the aim of determining the role of population growth characteristics in the development of the governorate. To achieve the objectives of the study and answer its questions, the study followed the inductive approach using a number of quantitative methods in processing the study data, both descriptive and analytical. In collecting and analyzing its data, the research relied on sources of censuses, population estimates, and urban development. The study concluded that the development of population growth led to multiple Urban and service development trends, an addition to using remote sensing techniques and Geographical Information Sciences: to analyze satellite visuals and extract changes in land use. which requires implementing urban development plans in accordance with population growth trends to achieve sustainable development goals, and predicting the future of urban development based on population growth indicators and doubling the populationّ
