Abstract

The study aimed to introduce the institutional digital repository (Archives and online databases) of the Department of Information and Library Sciences - University of Khartoum, and its idea, vision, mission and policies for depositing, organizing and making digital contents available. It aims to evaluate it by identifying the degree of acceptance it enjoys among researchers and specialists in the field of information sciences and libraries. Thus, it contributes significantly to introducing this repository, its idea, vision, mission, and policies for depositing and organizing digital contents and making them available and reveals the strengths and weaknesses of this repository. The researcher hopes that this study will represent a starting point for other studies in the same field that can cover its various aspects and produce positive results that enhance such as this type of research study. The study used the descriptive method and the evaluative method. It relied on the questionnaire to collect data and information, using the (focus group) method. The study found that the institutional digital repository of the Department of Information and Library Sciences - University of Khartoum received high praise and acceptance from specialists in library sciences and information technology. Its interface is characterized by ease of use, due to its simplicity and ease of use, and its availability of various search capabilities (simple - advanced), and browsing digital contents by author, title, subject, etc. The scientific production of the department's faculty members is considered one of the best of these contents. The repository link enables you to access it directly without redirecting to another page. The efficiency of the search available through this repository's interface has received good reviews. The study recommended: Motivating faculty members to deposit their scientific works in the digital repository and linking it to the subject of academic promotion. Do not deposit any scientific material in the digital repository unless it has been reviewed, corrected and evaluated. Practical monitoring of the quality of materials deposited in the digital repository on an ongoing basis, and defining a policy that ensures the exclusion process for contents that become less useful after some time has passed from the date of their deposit .
