Abstract

This research is concerned with tracking the manifestations of visual formation in the textual paratexts in the poetry of contemporary Saudi women. The textual paratexts are those textual and non-textual elements which accompany and surround the text, and come in a form of external and internal paratexts that lead to the text core, and help to understand it and infer its significance. This interest is a reaction to structuralism's interest in the text and its neglect to the elements surrounding it, considering the text as a structure closed on itself, as many recent studies - including this study - turned to the elements surrounding the text by describing the text as it cannot be devoid of verbal or iconographic accompaniments that make it suggest itself to the readers. Those accompaniments would produce its meaning and significance, and thus the textual paratexts are no longer merely a margin, but have become a self-contained field of knowledge that is taught for its own nature .

This research studies the textual paratexts of a visual nature according to their relationship to the text and their occurrence in the external and internal fields through the surrounding textual paratexts .This means the paratexts located in the outer scope of the text, and represents the first point for getting into the text, and is represented in the front and back covers, in addition to what they contain of textual and pictorial data together with the paratexts that follow it, such as acknowledgement ,dedication, and the introduction ,till it ends with extracting the results of this critical experience .
