This study aims to explore Ibn al-Rūmī’s experience in satirical poetry and to reveal the aesthetics of his performance in this poetic genre, in order to identify his distinctiveness and uniqueness in this art. It also seeks to trace how his satire was received by critical, literary, and religious circles, both in his time and in later periods. The research methodology is based on an inductive reading
of Ibn al-Rūmī’s satirical poems through the lens of a modern critical approach, namely Reception Theory as developed by Wolfgang Iser and Hans Robert Jauss. This approach helps to examine the impact of the reception of his satirical poetry among various audiences, contemporary and subsequent. The study concludes with several findings, most notably the variation in readers’
responses to Ibn al-Rūmī’s satire according to their cultural and social backgrounds. It also highlights the central role of the reader as an active agent in shaping the meaning of satirical texts, as the nature of reception differs depending on the reader’s intellectual background, cultural knowledge, and social affiliation—whether from the general public or the elite, from critics or from jurists and religious scholar
