Abstract

This article investigates on developing and creating the learning materials to be applied in the field of teaching German as foreign language abroad, particularly in Sudan. To achieve this aim, three different research methods were triangulated to reveal the reflections of learners and teachers in the Department of German Language, the Faculty of Arts, University of Khartoum in 2018. First and foremost, a quantitative research method was conducted to evaluate the needs and wants of the Learners for preparing learning materials relating German lessons in Sudan and their ideas and impressions concerning the learning topics that appear in the so-called international textbooks for German as foreign language. Then a qualitative survey was conducted with the learners to discuss the results of quantitative research method mentioned above. Subsequently, the different
learners` views and reflections, to formulate recommendations and guidelines for creating teaching and learning materials for German as a foreign language in Sudan, were elaborately discussed with the teachers in frame of a qualitative method. This occurred according to the outcomes of the quantitative and qualitative research methods carried out with the learners. Therefore, this article presents the important results and guidelines for the design of teaching and learning materials for teaching German as a foreign language in Sudan
