Separation of Water Contaminated with Oil using Plant Fiber (Sisal)

RAYAN M. Nouh

Abstract

Water contaminated with oil has bad consequences on the habitats and population inhabiting them. This study done to investigate whether, the plant fibres (Sisal) could decrease pollution by separating oil from water. Toll Pouches filled with plant fibres used to separate oil from water. The results showed that plant fibres drain more clean water in the first use of separating oil from water compared to the second and third use (p = 0.0). The efficiency of fibres used for the second time was found similar to its efficiency in the third time (p = 0.5). The results showed that plant fibres could use as a mechanical separation technique to separate oil from water.
