This research addresses the issue of contrived exemplification (al-mithal al-masnu’) within the taxonomical classification of meaning-conveying particles (huruf al-ma’ani). It specifically tackles the practice wherein grammarians formulate artificial examples that lack a foundation in
authentic Arabic corpus or verified linguistic tradition. The study further analyzes the impact of these fabricated constructs on the systemic categorization of particles, the unwarranted expansion
of semantic functions, and the proliferation of categories that lack rigorous philological substantiation. Adopting a descriptive-analytical methodology, the research traces the occurrences of the particle "Waw" within specialized treatises on particles and general grammatical
references. The study yields significant findings, most notably the exclusion of the "Waw of Recollection" (waw al-tadhakkur) from the categories of the singular "Waw." It asserts that this particle is merely a phonetic augmentation resulting from vocalic elongation (ishba’) and prosodic necessity—serving mnemonic purposes rather than possessing inherent semantic properties.
Ultimately, the research advocates for a stringent commitment to authentic linguistic evidence—derived from the Holy Qur’an, Prophetic Tradition, and the classical eloquence of Arabic poetry and prose—as the sole authoritative basis for determining linguistic meaning.
