Abstract

The present study aimed to identify the general characteristics of health behavior among patients with diabetes at the Diabetes Treatment Center of Atbara Teaching Hospital, the results indicated a low level of health behavior among diabetic patients at the significance level of (0.01). Statistically significant differences in health behavior were found according to gender in favor of males at the significance level of (0.01). However, no statistically significant differences were found according to age at the significance level of (0.05). The results also revealed statistically significant differences in health behavior according to the duration of illness at the significance level of (0.01). These differences were in favor of patients whose duration of illness exceeded six years, followed by those whose duration ranged from three to five years. No statistically significant differences were found in health behavior according to educational level at the significance level of (0.05). In light of these findings, the study recommended enhancing health education programs for diabetic patients at the Diabetes Treatment Center of Atbara Teaching Hospital, along with the development of individual and group counseling follow-up plans. The study also recommended providing awareness programs that take gender differences into account and activating the role of the family as a key partner in monitoring and supporting patients’ health behaviors.
